ZT-022 LAKES OF CAJAS (FULL DAY, DAILY)

Cajas is located 33 Km. northwest of Cuenca: over 230 lagoons of glacial origin gathered to form a rare, beautiful spectacle in the Andes. It is fantastic for hiking, trekking and for observing the flora, fauna and bird-life of the area. Packed lunch included.

ZT-023 INGAPIRCA RUINS (FULL DAY, DAILY)

Located two hours north of Cuenca, Ingapirca is the most important monument left by the aboriginal cultures of Ecuador. Once the political and religious center of the Cañaris, it later became an Inca ceremonial temple and strategic site. The vast archeological complex of ruins includes a roofless fortification, courtyards, terraces, temples, houses, and a “castle”, possibly a “Temple of the Sun”. A museum is open at the site containing both archeological and ethnographic displays as well as a scale model of the ruins. Lunch at a restaurant. Return back to Cuenca in the afternoon.

ZT-024 GUALACEO AND CHORDELEG (6 HRS. DAILY)     

The traditional villages located northeast of Cuenca. Areas of great interest for their arts and crafts such as Panama hats, “ikat” textiles, jewelry and popular pottery. On Sundays, a visit is made to the Indian market in Gualaceo.
